TreeHouse Foods, Inc. Has an All-Encompassing View of Opportunities

Oak Brook, Illinois-based TreeHouse Foods, Inc. operates as a food and beverage manufacturer in the U.S. and Canada. The Company provides private label food and beverage offerings. Its branches extend across numerous product categories, providing custom solutions for the majority of top grocery retailers and foodservice operators. Private Label Grocery saw 24.6% growth from 2009 – 2014. TreeHouse Foods is North America’s largest private label food and beverage manufacturer.

TreeHouse Foods’ companies include Bay Valley Foods, TreeHouse Private Brands; Flagstone Foods; and E.D. Smith. The Company’s Bay Valley Foods, LLC, dates back to 1862. TreeHouse has over 50 manufacturing facilities across the U.S., Canada and Italy.

TreeHouse Foods’ business strategy is to participate in the growth of private label and foodservice markets. It is working actively to accomplish this by purchasing and integrating private label and foodservice companies. This is to create competitively advantaged scale in highly fragmented markets.

The Company manufactures shelf stable, refrigerated, frozen and fresh products. Its product lineup includes beverages and beverage enhancers; meals (dry dinners, mac & cheese, cereals, soups, broths, and more); condiments; as well as healthy snacks.

The above-mentioned TreeHouse Private Brands (previously the ConAgra Private Brands business), is TreeHouse Foods’ latest acquisition. TreeHouse Private Brands product family includes hot cereal and ready-to-eat cereal; jams, jellies, preserves, salsa, sauces, spoonables, and syrups; and dry pasta products. TreeHouse Foods acquired Ralcorp Holdings, Inc. from ConAgra Foods.

TreeHouse Private Brands’ products also include retail bakery products such as artisan breads, cakes, cookies, frozen waffles, and more. Moreover, its products include various snacks, as well as bars (fruit snacks, health & nutrition bars, snack bars).

TreeHouse Foods’ belief is that single serve beverages will be a growth path for the Company in the foreseeable future. Its progress was most noticeable in single serve coffee for Q2 2016 (in regards to categories and customers). In addition, in Q2 2016, hot cereal, carton soup and broth, pickles, tea and snack nuts showed year-over-year improvement.

“Food Away From Home” is an area that the Company places an emphasis on. In essence, TreeHouse Foods offers private label food and beverage offerings to retail grocery and Food Away From Home customers throughout North America.

“Millennials” are customers that are causing new ways of corporate thinking in today’s marketplace. Millennials typically signifies the generation of people born between the early 1980s and the early 2000s.

Ms. Rachel Bishop, Chief Strategy Officer at TreeHouse Foods, said that brand names are much less important to Millennials. She stated, ‘Overall what they say is they don’t have a real preference between private label and national brands.
